If someone discloses a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes after being onboarded on NDPP, they may continue the programme, as they may still benefit from support regarding improving nutrition, increasing physical activity, and achieving a healthy weight. In these circumstances, individuals should be advised to continue with the programme if they wish, but to also discuss with their GP to ensure that the GP is happy for them to continue. It is also worth noting that the GP may refer the person to a diabetes specific educational programme and in this case, it may be too much for the person to attend both our programme as well as a diabetes specific one.

If a member is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, they cannot continue with the programme and should be referred back to their GP for specialist support.
